Job Duties:

You would be joining a group of 6 Radiation Oncologists, 5 Medical Oncologists, and 4 Hematologists.

The department is pleased to offer SBRT Lung, prostate, non-spine bone, SRS/SRT brain, Brachytherapy (Gynae, prostate, skin), DIBH. We have Trilogy, True beam, and Edge Linear Accelerators. We have a GE Optima 580 CT and Discovery CT Simulators.

You would be participating in outpatient clinics, new patient consults and coverage of our in-patient ward for the weekends and weekday calls on a rotating schedule of 1 in 7. The Saint John Regional Hospital is a tertiary care hospital associated with Dalhousie University and Halifax. Tertiary care medical and allied health departments fully support the department of Radiation Oncology.

There are weekly disposition rounds for most of our tumor sites and rounds are accredited through the Royal College MOCOMP program. Journal club, also accredited is held monthly from September through June of each year.

There are excellent Medical Education opportunities. There are medical students, clinical clerks, family medicine residents, and Oncology residents that regularly rotate through our department. In addition, Saint John Regional Hospital is a satellite of Dalhousie University campus at the University of New Brunswick. Therefore, we have abundant opportunities to be involved in undergraduate and post graduate training.

The department of Oncology is actively involved in research trials through CCTG, NRG and industry sponsored trials.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick, privileges with Horizon Health Network and membership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as adequate liability insurance.

About the Facility:

Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.

The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.

The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.
