Position Description:

The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is recruiting a Family Medicine Physician with an interest in Infectious Diseases to join our collaborative team in Moncton, New Brunswick. The hospital functions as a tertiary referral center for Infectious Diseases for Eastern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and is the principal HIV referral center for the Province.

Job Duties:

A typical weekly schedule will include:

  • On-call coverage in coordination with other members of the Department
  • Daily inpatient rounds
  • Inpatient consultations
  • Hospital-based clinics
  • Office hours
  • Involvement in teaching residents and medical students
  • NCIC affiliated and opportunities exist for research

 

The successful candidate will work primarily in the outpatient clinic with a focus on key ID programs including HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infection, pre and post exposure prophylaxis (including PREP for HIV), and immigrant/refugee/employee health. The successful candidate may also be involved in the follow up of general infectious disease cases on an inpatient and outpatient basis after initial consultation by the infectious disease consultant.

Having a dedicated family physician in our outpatient clinic will allow FRCPC ID docs to focus on patients of higher acuity both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the ID team who will provide training and ongoing CME related to the candidate’s clinical practice. The ideal candidate will be very comfortable working with diverse patients include those with substance use disorder, housing and financial insecurity, immigrants and refugees, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Hours of Work:

Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Remuneration:

Salaried

Standard remuneration is a salaried model. No source deductions can be provided. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a fee-for-service model may be available which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. This may range between a minimum of $245, 856 to a maximum of $268, 346 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience. Locums receive 10% in lieu of benefits. On-call remuneration is fee for service.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick
  • Certification in Family Medicine (CCFP or equivalent)
  • Interest or experience in Infectious Diseases, HIV care, chronic disease management, or complex ambulatory medicine considered an asset
  • Collaborative, patient-centered approach to care
  • Eligibility for hospital privileges with Horizon Health Network

Incentives:

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service. 

Relocation reimbursement available.

Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital is located in the city of Moncton. Situated in the centre of this vibrant and friendly city, The Moncton Hospital is a leader in health care delivery and health promotion.

The hospital is a level 2 trauma centre that includes tertiary care for neurosurgery, neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine services. It serves as a referral centre for these tertiary services and other specialty services across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia.

The Moncton Hospital is among Canada’s leading centres for neurosurgery, neurology and active advanced-stage oncology (cancer) services and is home to the NB Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, the NB Organ and Tissue Program and the Perinatal NB Program.

The Moncton Medical Education Program, affiliated with Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the following fully accredited teaching programs are administered through The Moncton Hospital: Dietetic Internship Program, the School of Radiologic Technology and Research, and the Pharmacy Residency Program.

The area’s health services cover a catchment population of approximately 192,000 people.
