Position Description:

Horizon Health Network is seeking an Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgeon join our collegial and collaborative team in beautiful Saint John, New Brunswick.


Horizon Health Network in the Saint John area (Zone 2) is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for a permanent full‑time Otolaryngologist - Head & Neck Surgeon to join our team. This role includes a balance of inpatient and outpatient care, along with shared on‑call responsibilities in collaboration with four dedicated colleagues in the Division of Otolaryngology.

Members of the Department of Surgery are warmly encouraged to participate in our vibrant surgical teaching environment, which is affiliated with Dalhousie University Medical School, the Memorial University postgraduate program, and the undergraduate program at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. Information about faculty appointments is available for those interested in exploring academic involvement. Physicians are also invited to contribute to our growing research program.

Job Duties:

  • Perform both elective and emergency Otolaryngology procedures.
  • Provide outpatient assessment and management, including clinics and minor OR cases.
  • Deliver inpatient care, including daily rounds on admitted patients.
  •  Provide consultations for hospital‑based patients at the request of medical or hospital staff.
  • Maintain a private office for elective consultations and follow‑up visits.
  • Teach and mentor residents, medical students, and other learners as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support staff and patient education needs.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational evidence‑based practices to ensure high standards of care.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota; on‑call responsibilities are shared through a 1‑in‑5 rotation.
  • Perform additional duties within the scope of practice as assigned by the Chief of the Department of Surgery, Chief of Staff, Medical Director, and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Remuneration:

Fee for Service

Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.

Qualifications:

  • A medical degree is required.
  • Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada in Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Fellowship training is not required.
  • An interest in otology would be an asset
  • Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
  • Must be eligible for malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or equivalent, appropriate to the category of practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  •  Good attendance and work record.

Incentives:

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service.

About the Facility:

Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.

The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.

The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.
