Position Description:

A Clinical Assistant provides clinical medical work under the direct supervision of a regularly licensed physician within a Regional Health Authority. Work is performed within the confines of the scope of practice and position description provided. Other work may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by their Clinical Supervisor, the Local Chief of Staff, or applicable Medical Director. The physician acts within the confines of the relevant RHA departmental and medical rules and bylaws.

Job Duties:

Work can be performed in a variety of settings and includes duties such as: providing surgical assistance for elective and emergency surgeries; providing care for hospitalized patients in conjunction with the attending physician; participating in an on-call rotation during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings; participating in the evaluation, and treatment of patients in conjunction with, and at the discretion of, the consulting/attending physician; practicing in a collaborative fashion as a member of the interdisciplinary team and consulting with members of other health care professions as appropriate. Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday based on 37.5 hours per week

Must participate in an on-call rotation during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings that

provides care for surgical inpatients (“first call” for surgery inpatient units)

Salaried

Starting at $146,517 per year

Plus FFS billings for after hours

Qualifications:

Graduation from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and which is acceptable in Canada. Must have acquired two (2) years postgraduate training and one-year licensed independent, unsupervised practice experience or have acquired one year post graduate training and two (2) years licensed independent, unsupervised practice experience. Possession of LMCC (Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada) or acceptable alternative as set out in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick’s Acceptable Alternatives to LMCC policy is also required.

Possession of an eligibility letter for a Clinical Assistant license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

Other Requirements:

Clinical Assistants will be required to:

1) Maintain appropriate annual CME/CPD requirements;

2) Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery;

3) Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community

Health Center regulation, Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations;

4) Follow the code of ethics of College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the

Canadian Medical Association;

5) Comply with recommendations of a performance review after 12 weeks, 6 months, and one

year after employment and annually thereafter;

6) Be a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Medical Society; and

7) Maintain malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association appropriate

to the category of practice.

The Moncton Hospital is among Canada’s leading centres for neurosurgery, neurology and active advanced-stage oncology (cancer) services and is home to the NB Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, the NB Organ and Tissue Program and the Perinatal NB Program.

The Moncton Medical Education Program, affiliated with Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the following fully accredited teaching programs are administered through The Moncton Hospital: Dietetic Internship Program, the School of Radiologic Technology and Research, and the Pharmacy Residency Program.
