Horizon invites applications for a full time Royal College Certified Geriatrician, or the equivalent. This specialist physician position will be located at the St. Joseph's Hospital, 130 Bayard Drive, Saint John, New Brunswick. The position will be available commencing early 2021 (exact date TBD).
This is an opportunity to join an established Department of Geriatric Medicine which consists of 14 full-time and part-time geriatricians and family doctors. This department is part of the Horizon Health Network which offers 23 areas of specialty medicine and surgery. Horizon Health Network is also supported by a vast array of research, education, health promotion activities and community partnerships. Dalhousie New Brunswick Medical Education Program is located adjacent to the Saint John Regional Hospital at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John.
Horizon has an annual budget of approximately $1.1 billion and has more than 12,600 employees, 1,100 physicians and 5,200 volunteers, auxiliary and alumnae members, as well as 17 foundations and 18 auxiliary and alumnae organizations. Horizon ensures representation from urban and rural areas through a 15-member Board that consists of 7 appointed and 8 elected members of the public.
St. Joseph’s Hospital, located in the centre of the City of Saint John, is known as a Centre of Excellence for Geriatric Medicine. The hospital is also home to a thriving ambulatory Surgical Centre, a comprehensive Breast Health Program, women’s health services, various medical and surgical clinics, diagnostic/ therapeutic services, an Urgent Care Centre and the New Brunswick Eye and Tissue Bank.
HOURS OF WORK:
- Hours of work are normally provided between 0830hrs – 1630hrs Monday to Friday, unless otherwise agreed upon by the Service/Department Head.
- After-hours and weekend call coverage in coordination with members of the Department.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Geriatric Medicine service: ambulatory clinics, consultation service to Saint John Regional Hospital, community visits to patient homes and nursing homes in the Saint John area, and inpatient hospital care at St. Joseph's Hospital. The inpatient care at St. Joseph's Hospital consists of a 21 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit, 21 bed Restorative Care Unit, 20 bed Cognitive Assessment and Management Unit and two 21 bed Transitional Care Units. Participation in teaching of medical students and residents is expected, and collaborative or individual research is encouraged. Candidates must be an MD eligible for New Brunswick licensure plus FRCPC or equivalent higher qualification in the specialty of Internal Medicine and sub-specialty of Geriatric Medicine.

This is a Salaried position, remuneration is based on the New Brunswick Medical Pay Plan. The current rates range between $230,074 to a maximum of $279,682 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience. On call remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare New Brunswick.
Moving Expense Allowance with a Return of Service.
Candidates may be eligible for a Provincial Recruitment Incentive with a Return of Service Agreement.

- A medical degree is required.

- Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred, other equivalent qualifications will be considered.
