Family physician for the Kent region – Social Pediatrics
Vitalité Health Network is issuing a call for expressions of interest among its internal staff to recruit a family physician interested in a part-time position in social pediatrics; the position is located in the Kent region. This physician will be responsible for providing social pediatric services in the communities of Richibucto, Bouctouche and Saint-Louis-de-Kent in collaboration with the Coordinator of Community Social Pediatric Services.  The possibility of providing services in the Rogersville area in collaboration with Horizon Health Network is currently being studied.
The community social pediatric physician will care for children based on a comprehensive approach to health, in co-intervention with an interprofessional and intersectoral team. The physician will work in the community with vulnerable children and families to ensure that children achieve optimal wellness and development while at the same time respecting their rights and interests. The physician will focus on children’s needs and strengths as well as on those of their family and community and will also participate in the major societal issues affecting children’s health and wellness.
Overview of Vitalité Health Network – Vitalité Health Network is one of New Brunswick’s two regional health authorities.  The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care and palliative care. Services additional to those provided by hospitals include public health services, community mental health and addiction services, community mental health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans’ centres, for a broader range of health care services. The Network is also active in the training and research fields, with these efforts helping to keep employees’ skills up-to-date and to plan for succession. In addition to their work in social pediatrics, the successful candidate will remain a member of the Department of Family Medicine of the Kent region and will comply with the by-laws and definition of duties of the local Family Medicine Department (Zone 1B). They will participate in on-call service (inpatients) of the family medicine team of the Kent region at the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital for the balance of their FTE. The position includes professional medical work performed by a licensed specialist (holding specialist licensure recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick). A licensed specialist enjoys great clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical problems within their field of specialization. Their clinical work and performance may be monitored and evaluated by the department/division/service and/or clinical program to which they belong. Their work may also be monitored by the Local and/or Regional Chief of Staff and the Medical Director responsible for their area within the Network. The physician will abide by the Network’s By-Laws and policies.
Remuneration is based on a salary model, according to which New Brunswick Medicare pays fees directly to the medical staff for any service provided.
