Family Physician


The Grand Falls General Hospital, located in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, is recruiting a full-time Family Physician.  The Department of Family Medicine has approximately 12 family physicians and provides services to a population of around 5,500 people.  The candidate will work in various contexts of community care and hospital. He or she will open an office in the community and provide primary care services. In addition, he or she will provide services to patients hospitalized and will participate in the hospitalization program according to the need determined by the head of the Department of Family Medicine. This position is primarily focused on primary health care physician and preventive health services in community and may include emergency shifts.

Overview of the Edmundston Regional Hospital –The Hospital is an acute care facility providing complex and critical care, surgical and ambulatory care, medical and long-term care, mother/child and mental health care.  This hospital has three hospitals facilities:  The Edmundston Regional Hospital (169 beds) the Grand Falls General Hospital (20 beds) and the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Quentin (6 beds) and has a team nearly 108 physicians, over 1,000 employees, and 80 volunteers and is also affiliated with the University of Sherbrooke for teaching. 

Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans' centres. This position involves clinical work in the provision of general medical care of patients. The work involves responsibility for performing medical care in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and may require close cooperation with various health care professionals. Work is performed with opportunity for independent judgment and action, and is reviewed by the physician’s Clinical Department Head / Chief of Service / Program Director in which the physician works. Review of the work may also be supervised by the Local and Regional Chiefs of Staff and the zone’s Medical Director of the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works in accordance of the RHA Bylaws.

Standard remuneration is fee-for-service billing, which is a form of direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick.   

• Diploma of a recognized  Medical School and graduate studies in the field of family medicine
• Must have the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certification or it’s equivalent
