Family physician in oncology – Beauséjour / Moncton

The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC), in Moncton, New Brunswick, is seeking to recruit a family physician who would like to do a locum in oncology medicine during a maternity leave that will begin in January 2020
The physician takes part in the follow-up of oncology patients in collaboration with hemato-oncologists and medical oncologists. They participate in the various activities of the department (multidisciplinary team meetings, Pharmacy Department meetings, etc.) and collaborate with other professionals from the multidisciplinary team. The Network expects the physician to also participate in the training of family medicine students and residents.
The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC is a level-3 trauma centre and a medical training centre affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke.
The position includes professional medical work performed by a licensed family physician (holding a family physician licensure recognized by the New Brunswick College of Family Physicians). The physician’s clinical work and performance may be monitored and evaluated by the department/division/service and/or clinical program to which they belong. Their work may also be monitored by the local and/or regional service chief and the Medical Director for the zone within the regional health authority (RHA). The physician abides by the By-Laws and policies of the RHA.

Overview of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC) – The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC, located in the heart of the City of Moncton, is the lead facility of the Beauséjour Zone (Kent and Southeastern New Brunswick region) of Vitalité Health Network. This 302-bed hospital provides primary, specialized and tertiary (more complex) care using cutting-edge technology. It has over 240 physicians, 2,000 employees and 315 volunteers. It provides services in both official languages. The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC serves patients from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. It is a provincial referral centre for its highly specialized services. As a teaching and research hospital, the UHC maintains close ties with a number of the country’s universities and colleges.
Overview of the regional health authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities (RHAs) in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care and palliative care. Services provided by Public Health, Community Mental Health Centres and Addiction Services as well as services provided by the Extra-Mural Program and veterans' centres complement those provided by hospital facilities, giving the Network a broader range of health care services. The position involves clinical work that consists in providing general medical care to patients. Duties include medical functions related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and may require to work closely with various health professionals.  The work, which offers considerable latitude to allow for independent action and judgment, may be reviewed by the head of the department or clinical program to which the physician belongs. The work may also be monitored by the Local and/or Regional Chief of Staff and by the Regional Medical Director for the RHA.

The physician abides by the By-Laws of the RHA.
Remuneration for hospital services is based on a sessional model with a fixed hourly rate.


• Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate degree (residency) in the field of family medicine
• Licensure from the College of Family Physicians of Canada or equivalent
