The Restigouche Hospital Centre (RHC), located in Campbellton, New Brunswick, is recruiting full-time psychiatrists.  The successful candidates will have considerable clinical independence in practising general and/or medicolegal psychiatry. They will provide inpatient consultations and follow-up.  Depending on their area of expertise, they will be involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the program in one of the following areas: psychotic disorders, mood disorders, or autism spectrum disorder in children and/or adults.  They will participate and be directly involved in the training of medical residents and students and in research.  


Overview of the Restigouche Hospital Centre – The Restigouche Hospital Centre (RHC) is a newly built facility meeting the standards recognized by the Province of New Brunswick.  The RHC’s provincial and primary mission is to deliver specialized services and to transfer knowledge to regional and local mental health teams so that patients can benefit from a continuum of care. The RHC is also dedicated to developing a mental health research component. The RHC is a provincial reference centre for all medical-forensic cases. The RHC provides specialized mental health services in both official languages to all New Brunswick residents. This 120-bed hospital provides specialized mid- to long-term psychiatric rehabilitation services; consultation and stabilization services for people with complex psychiatric problems or other related illnesses; forensic psychiatry services (evaluating fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility); and care to people who have been found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder or who are unfit to stand trial. The RHC’s objective is patients’ overall recovery, personal development, return to independence and reintegration into society. In addition to its ultramodern units, the centre also has a year-round greenhouse, a music room, a woodworking shop, a gymnasium and fitness centre, and a kennel where patients can bring their pets and where an animal therapy program could be developed. Patients also have access to a hairdressing salon, clothing shop, coffee shop and spirituality room and can obtain spiritual services.
Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres and veterans' centres. This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the specialty in which they are practicing. Clinical care and performance may be subject to supervision and assessment by the physician’s Clinical Department/Division/Service Head and/or Program Director in which the physicians works. Review of clinical work may also be supervised by the Local and/or Regional Chiefs of Staff and the Zone’s Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works in accordance with RHA Bylaws and policies.

The candidate will be remunerated on a salaried model. This may range between a minimum of $227,786 to a maximum of $276,900 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience.  On call remuneration is fee for service.

•    Graduate from an approved school of medicine supplemented by post-graduate study in the area of specialization (Psychiatry)
•    The candidate must have his certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCPC) or American Board certification
•    The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.    
•    Knowledge of French and English, spoken and written, is required
