General Surgeon (locum)
The Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, New Brunswick is looking for a locum in general surgery for one (1) week per month from April to September 2018. Any person who would be interested to make a week or a few weeks from time to time is also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will join a team of four (3) surgeons with four (4) OR rooms.
Overview of the Chaleur Regional Hospital – The Chaleur Regional Hospital with its 215 beds, provides a wide range of primary care services, as well as Regional specialized secondary care, including most of all the major surgical services. With a workforce of approximately 90 family physicians and 62 specialists, the Chaleur Regional Hospital is an authorized partner of the Family Medicine Francophone Program of the University of Sherbrooke and of the Nursing Program of at the University of Moncton and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
The Chaleur Regional Hospital is undergoing major renovations valued approximately at 200 million dollars. The five-storey building with a total area of approximately 11,507 square meters will have major renovations done to patient rooms, add new birthing rooms, as well as dialysis, outpatient, oncology, pediatric and administrative services. A new intensive care unit officially opened in January 2014. The unit, which covers 1,431 square metres (15,900 square feet), can accommodate 10 intensive care patients as well as five step-down patients. It represents an investment of $13.4 million. The facilities are ultramodern, with more spacious patient rooms and dedicated observation stations. This unit is an important addition to the delivery of critical care for patients in the region.
Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two Regional Health Authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones, covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official languages chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans' centres. This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the specialty in which they are practicing. Clinical care and performance may be subject to supervision and assessment by the physician’s Clinical Department/Division/Service Head and/or Program Director in which the physicians works. Review of clinical work may also be supervised by the Local and/or Regional Chiefs of Staff and the Zone’s Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician works in accordance with RHA Bylaws and policies.
Guaranteed minimum rate of $1,600/day to ensure the on call service 24 hours/24 and reimbursement of travel and accommodation in accordance with the provincial policy.
• Graduate from a recognized Medical school and graduate studies supplemented by post-graduate study in the area of specialization (Surgery)
• Must have the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCPC) or its equivalent
